Scholarship Description

The Mac Hyde Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Maclay "Mac Hyde" (1934-2013), a pioneering environmental law attorney and expert in brownfield redevelopment. This scholarship supports students who are pursuing studies related to community revitalization, environmental quality, and brownfield redevelopment. Mac Hyde’s dedication to innovation in environmental law and development is commemorated through this $2,000 scholarship and recognition at the ReScape Awards.

  • Honorary student membership with Minnesota Brownfields while enrolled as a student
  • Free registration to one Minnesota Brownfields educational forum

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited Minnesota college or university, or a Minnesota resident
  • Must be pursuing a field related to brownfield redevelopment, such as engineering, earth/environmental sciences, government/public policy, law, business, real estate, public health, or economic development
  • Intended career in community revitalization, environmental quality, or remediation
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient is invited and encouraged to attend the ReScape Awards Event in April

Application Process

  1. Access the application through the Minnesota Brownfields website
  2. Complete the online application form
  3. Provide all required materials, including academic transcripts and any supporting documents
  4. Submit the application by March 3, 2025
  5. Minnesota Brownfields staff will review applications for completeness and share them with the judging committee
  6. The judging committee will convene in March to select the scholarship recipient
  7. Recipients will be notified by Minnesota Brownfields staff
  8. The winner will be featured in the Minnesota Brownfields email newsletter
