MHEC is the State of Maryland's higher education coordinating board responsible for establishing statewide policies for Maryland public and private colleges and universities and for-profit career schools. MHEC also administers state financial aid programs that affect students on a statewide basis. The State has an extensive array of financial aid programs in the form of grants, scholarships and other awards for students who want to further their education beyond high school.
The 2+2 Transfer Scholarship is designed to assist and encourage transfer students from Maryland community colleges to attend a 4-year institution within the state. Students must be enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland postsecondary education institution. In order to apply, students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA application by March 1 for priority awarding. The scholarship may be used for tuition and mandatory fees for three years of study or six semesters of study, whichever is longer. In order to renew this award, applicants must maintain a 2.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need and have Maryland residency.
