Michael McGoldrick was a successful academic, teacher, investor, conservationist, and patron of the arts. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking, fishing, and exploring. He had a voracious appetite for both knowledge and adventure. While he enjoyed a variety of professional careers, there was a common thread of helping others expand their knowledge, whether in the classroom or board room. He encouraged his students and co-workers to consider the world through a lens of comparative economics and compassionate human rights.

MEM Scholars will be selected whose lives, interests, and pursuits align with the values that Michael held dear in his life.

  • A passion for knowledge and discovery, both academic and experiential.
  • A strong belief in basic human rights for all.
  • A belief in truth, justice, and the rule of law.
  • The profound role that art and music play in human society and culture.
  • An appreciation of the outdoor world and environmental conservation.
