Scholarship Description

Presidential Scholarships are awarded through Scholars Weekend, an annual competition held each fall for the most talented early applicants to Mercer University. This covers facility-tech fees and up to full-tuition.

Applicants are invited based on a Freshman Index (FI) of 3200. The FI is calculated by multiplying the academic high school grade point average (GPA) by 500, then adding that number to the SAT/converted ACT score. For example, a student with a 1350 SAT and a 3.9 academic high school GPA would have an FI of 3300: 3.9(500) + 1350 = 3300.

To maintain academic scholarships, students must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours in each semester- Fall and Spring (students enrolled in less than 12 hours are not eligible for academic scholarships and must submit an appeal to the Financial Planning Office for approval to receive their merit award). The minimum standard for the renewal of merit-based scholarships is a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) for undergraduate studies. Specific scholarships and/or academic programs may require a higher grade point average. Cumulative grade point averages and amount of credit hours will be checked at the end of each spring term.
