Scholarship Description

The Michael Weiner Scholarship for Labor Studies seeks to recognize and support the efforts of graduate and/or law school students dedicated to improving the lives of workers. The Players Trust awards $50,000 annually to fund up to five scholarships at a minimum of $10,000 each. To date, the Trust has proudly awarded $440,000 in scholarships to 43 students.

Eligibility

To receive an award, eligible candidates must meet a combination of criteria identified below:

  • A strong academic record
  • Demonstrated commitment to the labor movement
  • A strong recommendation from an academic or a labor/workers’ rights practitioner
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Application Process

  1. Verify eligibility criteria, including enrollment, graduation date, and commitment to workers’ rights.
  2. Prepare your application materials, including your academic record, a recommendation, and evidence of financial need.
  3. Submit your application that demonstrates your dedication to workers’ rights and your strong communication skills.

Scholarship recipients are selected by a committee made up of some of those who were closest to Michael, both professionally and personally. Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) scores or otherwise.

Each student selected as a Michael Weiner Scholarship for Labor Studies recipient will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship. Up to five awards will be presented annually, and the first winners will be notified in January.
