Scholarship Description

Each year, Montana Space Grant Consortium offers graduate fellowships of $12,500, or matching a student's current award, plus in-state tuition up to six credits for one semester. Montana State University students receive a one-semester full tuition waiver for in-state or out-of-state tuition, thanks to Graduate School support.

Scholarship Details

  • Applications open during the third week of January and are due by April 1st for the following academic year

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be enrolled full time at a Montana Space Grant Consortium campus
  • Must be a graduate student conducting research related to NASA's mission
  • Applicants should clearly explain how their research aligns with NASA areas of interest

Application Process

  1. Complete the online application
  2. Arrange for one letter of recommendation to be submitted
  3. Prepare and upload a research statement with a maximum length of four pages
  4. Prepare and upload a personal statement with a maximum length of two pages
  5. Upload a resume or curriculum vitae
  6. Submit an unofficial graduate school transcript
  7. Submit all application materials by April 1st for consideration for the following academic year
  8. If selected, complete the required award acknowledgment paperwork before beginning the fellowship
  9. At the end of the fellowship term, submit a final report of at least two pages and complete an oral or poster presentation

Awards are made on a competitive basis to graduate students working on research projects in fields of study relevant to NASA's mission (see below). Students interested in a competitive application should highlight how their project is related to a NASA areas of interest.
