The MPower Artist Grants are competitive scholarships aimed at supporting the career goals of Sphinx alumni across various programs. These grants are designed to empower artists in the classical music field, with award amounts based on the scope, need, and impact of the proposed projects. Grants start at $1,000, with an average award of $10,000. Requests over $15,000 will not be considered.
Scholarship Details

- Designed to support Sphinx alumni in advancing their careers in classical music
- Exceptions may be considered for tuition for higher education/summer programs or new instrument purchases
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be alumni of a Sphinx program, including:
- Sphinx Competition (Semi-Finalists and/or Laureates)
- Sphinx Virtuosi, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, or Honors Orchestra
- Sphinx Performance Academy, EXIGENCE, or NAAS and/or SOPA Excerpt Competition (first round recording/live round participants)
- Sphinx Medals of Excellence or Sphinx LEAD
- Must be in good standing with the Sphinx Organization
Application Process
- Complete the grant application, detailing your project and how it supports your career objectives
- Clearly illustrate the impact of the grant on your career; community service or project merit should be a secondary focus
- Ensure that your application aligns with grant guidelines, especially if requesting funds for education or instrument purchases, which are considered exceptional cases
MPower Artist Grants offer a valuable opportunity for Sphinx alumni to advance their classical music careers. Applicants may NOT have received funding from MPower Artist Grants, Sphinx Venture Fund, or Medals of Excellence within the past year. MPower Artist Grants do not support personal living expenses (rent, utilities, etc.) nor reimbursements for previous activities.
