The My Story Matters Scholarship was created to encourage high school students to write and share their own personal narratives. Recipients receive $1,000 to support their college, career, and life goals, and commit to sharing their story with a live audience at the LISTEN event.
Scholarship Details
- Five scholarships awarded annually
- Each recipient receives $1,000
- Funds may be used without restriction to support personal or educational goals
- Open to high school students in Los Angeles County
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a current 12th grade student
- Must be enrolled in a school located in Los Angeles County
- Must complete and submit the full application
- Must be available to attend and share their story at the required event
Application Process
- Complete the scholarship application in full.
- Write a personal narrative essay between 750 and 1,500 words.
- Ensure the essay includes key elements such as influential people and settings, personal struggles and accomplishments, lessons learned, and intended community impact.
- Submit the application and essay by the specified deadline.
- Be prepared to present your story live if selected as a recipient.
- Recipients must attend and present at a live LISTEN event on November 5th
The My Story Matters Scholarship offers students a chance to share their story and how it relates to their current/planned impact on their community (school, neighborhood, friends/family, etc.). Use your authentic voice and please include all of the critical elements involved.
