CLDP is a two-year program, with an optional third year. Each year in the program is designed to build off the lessons and skills explored in the previous year. From their start in the program, students explore leadership on a personal level. By the third year, students are able to apply their leadership in global environments.
Scholarship Details
- Program launched in 2017 by the Shelton Leadership Center in partnership with the NC State Office of the Chancellor
- Accepts 20–25 first-year students annually
- Includes a small scholarship awarded in the first year
- Focuses on leadership development for first-generation and/or rural NC students
Eligibility Criteria
- First-generation college students and/or students from rural North Carolina
- Must be an incoming first-year student at NC State University
- Demonstrated academic performance and leadership potential
Application Process
- Apply to NC State University and confirm eligibility as a first-generation or rural NC student
- Complete the CLDP application (available through the Shelton Leadership Center)
- Provide academic information and evidence of leadership potential
- Participate in any required interviews or selection activities
- Await notification of selection to join the CLDP cohort
The third program year is optional and encourages students to further enhance their leadership experience by exploring their leadership on a global level. Students will learn about leading organizations, facilitating groups, and applying skills to a global context.
