Scholarship Description

The Greater Philadelphia Professionals Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is offering three $1,000 scholarships to underrepresented high school seniors planning to pursue a career in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This scholarship supports students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential while encouraging diversity in STEM fields.

Scholarship Details

  • Three $1,000 scholarships awarded
  • Open to graduating high school seniors in the Greater Philadelphia area
  • Applicants must be pursuing a STEM major at a four-year college or university
  • Winners must attend the Scholarship Banquet on Sunday, May 2, 2025

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduating high school senior accepted to a four-year college or university
  • Major in a STEM-related field
  • Reside or attend a school in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia counties
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0/4.0
  • Priority given to applicants from underrepresented groups (Black/African American, Hispanic, Native American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and/or Persons with Disabilities)

Application Process

  1. Complete the scholarship application form
  2. Upload an official report card or transcript
  3. Submit a 300–500 word essay responding to one of the following prompts:
    • Describe your academic and career goals and your plans to achieve them.
    • Describe an event in which you took a leadership role and what you learned about yourself.
    • Should there be an increase in women and minorities represented in STEM professions? Why?
    • How do you plan to use your STEM education to improve society?
  4. Provide a copy of your college acceptance letter
  5. Submit your completed application by 11:59 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025
  6. Attend the Scholarship Banquet on Sunday, May 2, 2025
