Scholarship Description

The title of this scholarship program calls back to a time when many Asian immigrants looked upon America as a mountain of golden opportunities for themselves and their families. Awardees of the scholarship seek dreams of higher education, which are not only the dreams of the students but also of their parents and extended family.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship award: $2,000 (non-renewable)
  • Award is considered taxable income; W-9 form required
  • Recipients will be recognized by OCA in a public format

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a high school senior enrolling in college by Fall
  • Must be a first-generation college student (parents did not complete a college degree)
  • DACA and undocumented students eligible if they have an SSN or ITIN
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA

Application Process

  1. Review the application guide and confirm eligibility
  2. Prepare a short bio (PDF, 300 words max) including background, school, interests, and goals
  3. Submit an academic transcript (unofficial accepted) covering freshman year through senior year
  4. Write one essay (PDF, 500 words max) on a personal challenge and how it shaped you
  5. Answer two short questions (PDF, 300 words max each):

    • Describe your experience as a first-gen AANHPI student
    • What is your intended major/minor and why?
  6. Submit a PDF detailing your:

    • Leadership experience (up to 3 examples)
    • Community service/volunteer experience (up to 3 examples)
    • Work/employment experience (up to 3 examples)
  7. Provide contact details (name, title, email, phone number, relationship) for two non-family references
  8. Double-check and submit your complete application by the deadline
