Each year, the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group (PAFMG) awards Pre-Med Scholarships to local high school seniors who will attend a four-year college and plan to pursue careers as doctors. The scholarship was started by Richard Babb, M.D., who was a gastroenterologist at PAMF’s Palo Alto Clinic.
Scholarship Details
- Annual scholarships up to $30,000, distributed over five years.
- Intended for students entering a four-year college with plans to pursue a medical doctor career.
- Aimed at supporting educational endeavors through undergraduate studies and the first year of medical school.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must reside in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, or Santa Cruz counties.
- Anticipate a career as a medical doctor and plan to take pre-medicine courses.
- Minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need.
- Completion of the FAFSA is required.
Application Process
- Complete the online application form available from mid-January.
- Submit a 1,000-word personal statement detailing interest in medicine, background, life experiences, and financial need.
- Ensure all parts of the application, including FAFSA documentation, are submitted by the deadline.
