South Carolina provides direct support to students pursuing higher education through a number of need-based and merit-based scholarships and grants, however you must prove residency in the state of South Carolina to apply for state-funded financial aid. The Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Program is a merit-based scholarship program administered by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. The scholarship must be applied directly towards the cost of attendance, less any other gift aid received. Palmetto Fellows may be supported for a maximum of eight full-time terms of study toward the first baccalaureate degree at a participating institution in South Carolina.
Students who attend out-of-state preparatory high schools may be eligible to apply if they are residents of South Carolina. Applicants must have no felonies, and be a US citizen or permanent resident. Applicants cannot be a recipient of the LIFE Scholarship, SC HOPE Scholarship or Lottery Tuition Assistance in the same academic year. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
