The Pepperdine Christian Leadership Award is for students who are members of a congregation traditionally associated with the Churches of Christ. In order to be considered, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a church leader (minister, elder, youth minister, etc.) of the Church of Christ congregation of which they are a member. Fall deadline is February 15 and Spring is November 1. In order to renew this scholarship, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
George Pepperdine was a lifelong member of (a congregation of) the Churches of Christ. Church of Christ fellowships arose from the American Restoration Movement, which sought to restore unity among Christian believers by rejecting creeds and returning to the bible as the only authoritative doctrine of faith and practice. For this reason, Churches of Christ are autonomous, non-denominational congregations associated by common core beliefs as recorded in the New Testament rather than united by a governing body, president, or creed. Pepperdine is rooted in this heritage, and Seaver College exhibits its commitment to its affiliation through many programs.
