Scholarship Description

The PKHCC-SF Keiki & ?Opio Scholarship is open to recipients that are attending pre-school, primary, secondary school, or an educational enrichment program in the state of Hawai?i. Only completed applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.

Scholarship Details

  • Open to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students attending accredited postsecondary institutions
  • Preference is given to applicants who are members of a Hawaiian Civic Club to the extent permitted by law
  • Graduate applicants must have a dissertation, thesis, or major research project focused on Native Hawaiian governance, leadership, nation-building, civil society, history, or the legacy of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana?ole
  • Academic progress is reviewed at the end of each academic term, and recipients who fail to meet standards may be placed on provisional status or have their awards suspended or terminated
  • Recipients may receive scholarship funding for a maximum of five years while completing eligible degree programs

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be of Hawaiian descent
  • Actively participate in community service
  • Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA or equivalent satisfactory academic progress
  • Graduate and professional students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent satisfactory academic progress
  • Graduate applicants must pursue qualifying research related to Native Hawaiian governance, leadership, history, or the legacy of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana?ole

Application Process

  1. Provide all required application materials and verify enrollment at an accredited institution
  2. If selected, attend the scholarship award ceremony unless an exception is approved by the Scholarship Chair
  3. Maintain membership in a qualifying civic organization dedicated to honoring and perpetuating the legacy of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana?ole
  4. Participate in the mentoring program offered through the Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club
  5. Graduate recipients must attend one PKHCC-SF meeting during the award year to provide an academic progress update
  6. Keep contact information current and notify the Scholarship Chair within 30 days of any changes
  7. Submit official transcripts after each funded academic term and provide a current course schedule within 30 days of the beginning of each semester
  8. Undergraduate recipients must submit an end-of-semester reflection
  9. Communicate promptly with the Scholarship Chair regarding any extenuating circumstances that may affect enrollment or scholarship responsibilities

Only completed applications submitted by the deadline will be considered. Recipients must re-apply for a scholarship award each year and meet all eligibility requirements.
