Scholarship Description

Cultured Pearl is a non-profit organization geared to support women of God by providing them with the tools according to scripture to bring them into God's light. The Purposeful Life scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors who are a positive influence on others in their Christian life. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA in the year of the award and must demonstrate community involvement, improvement in academics, and desires to attend college. Applicants must be from Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia.

Scholarship Details

  • Two scholarships will be awarded
  • Award amounts designated annually by available scholarship funds
  • Funds applied directly to the recipient’s school upon verification of enrollment
  • Scholarship designated for tuition only
  • Deadline to apply: April 30th by 11:59 p.m.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior in the year of the award.
  • Applicant must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (or a "C" average).
  • Applicant must demonstrate community involvement, improvement in academics, and desires to attend college.
  • All applicants must have 50 hours of community service.
  • Applicants may not be related to any Board of Directors or staff for this presents a conflict of interest.
  • Applicants must be willing to attend a scholarship an interview with the Executive Committee of Cultured Pearl via zoom
  • Applicants must be located in the DMV (Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia) area.
  • Applicants must be willing to attend the annual fundraiser event or Scholarship Brunch
  • Respond in a timely manner of 24-48 hours if selected as a recipient of the scholarship. Responding in an untimely manner will cause automatic forfeit of your scholarship.

Application Process

  1. Complete and submit the official scholarship application form (typed or neatly printed)
  2. Write and submit a one-page letter of application addressed to the Scholarship Committee, describing yourself and your college plans
  3. Provide two letters of recommendation from teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, or others familiar with your character and achievements
  4. Submit an official, recent high school transcript showing cumulative GPA and class rank
  5. Write a personal essay (1–2 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt font) explaining how your Christian faith has influenced your life
  6. Document at least 50 hours of community service with a signed letter of verification
  7. Email all application materials by April 30th at 11:59 p.m. (late or incomplete applications will not be considered)

The Purposeful Life Scholarship is designed to assist High School seniors who would like to go beyond the K-12 education. We are looking for Senior High students graduating at the current school year. Our scholarships are awarded to those who show against adversity that their faith in God is their strength while showing others a positive influence in a community based setting.
