The Riley I Whitelaw Memorial Fund Scholarship was established to honor Riley’s legacy of kindness, learning, and growth. Created in the wake of Riley’s tragic death, this scholarship aims to support students in achieving their potential by reducing financial barriers to higher education. Through the generosity of family, friends, and the community, the fund has awarded multiple scholarships and grants to graduating seniors at Air Academy High School and across Academy District 20.
Scholarship Details
- Award: Guaranteed for one year
- Must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment in a four-year college
- Funds will be paid directly to the student’s educational institution
- Award decisions will be based on a combination of academic achievement, positive impact, and work experience
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a graduating senior from Academy District 20 (Air Academy High School seniors must use the Air Academy-specific application)
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (GPA is considered, but positive impact and writing skills are also key factors)
- Demonstrated positive-impact involvement during high school or college career
- Part-time work experience (during the school year, summer, or both)
Application Process
- Submit a brief letter explaining career goals and biographical information.
- Complete and submit the official application form.
- Provide two (2) completed recommendation forms from teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, or individuals familiar with the applicant’s experience and involvement.
- Transcripts and Test Scores:
- Submit a recent high school transcript with cumulative GPA.
- If applicable, provide transcripts from any college coursework completed.
- Include a copy of ACT and/or SAT scores.
- Essay – Submit three (3) copies of your essay (if not submitted electronically).
