The RTDNF Presidents Scholarships support college students who are preparing for careers in radio, television or digital journalism. Offered by the RTDNA Foundation, these scholarships are part of a long-standing program that has awarded more than $1 million to aspiring journalists since 1970. In addition to financial support, recipients receive travel assistance to attend the RTDNA Foundation First Amendment Awards.
Scholarship Details
- Part of a scholarship program that has awarded more than $1 million to more than 600 young journalists since 1970
- Applicants may apply for only one RTDNA Foundation scholarship
- Students cannot receive the same scholarship more than once but may be eligible for a fellowship in the future
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a sophomore, junior or senior when the scholarship is awarded
- Must be studying or working in the United States
- Must not have previously received the same RTDNF Presidents Scholarship
Application Process
- Complete the online scholarship application form with your contact information and experience
- Provide links to three to five broadcast or online journalism work samples hosted on a platform such as YouTube, Vimeo or SoundCloud
- Upload a cover letter describing your journalism experience, how you plan to use the scholarship funds, and why you chose a career in journalism
- Upload your current resume
- Submit one letter of recommendation from a professor, advisor, or supervisor
- Review your application materials and submit them before the deadline
The RTDNA Foundation's first fellowship is named for Michele Clark, the CBS News correspondent who was killed in a plane crash while on assignment in 1972. This fellowship is awarded to a young, promising minority professional in television, radio or digital news.
