Scholarship Description

Write a persuasive essay between 1,200 and 1,500 words in response to the prompt provided. Submit your essay along with all other requirements by the application deadline. From Wuthering Heightsto The Odyssey, the hype around modern film and TV adaptations of literary classics is fueled by press coverage, social media discourse, and viral moments. Why do you think classic adaptations inspire such cultural "events," and what do they reveal about marketing trends in entertainment today?

Scholarship Details

  • Prize: $2,500
  • Eligible essays will be reviewed by a panel, with top submissions shared and voted on by the Smith Publicity team to select a winner.
  • Smith Publicity will coordinate scholarship funds directly with the award recipient’s school admissions office. The recipient will be notified by late June to coordinate payment and announcement details.
  • The winner will be announced the week of August 3 on Smith Publicity’s website.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate college students with verified enrollment for the fall semester.
  • Essays must be human-generated. Submissions will be reviewed using an AI detection tool, and any essays found to be written with the assistance of AI will be disqualified.

Application Process

  1. Write a 1,200 to 1,500 word essay following the specified prompt. Submissions must be human-generated.
  2. Include a cover page with your full name, name of your current school and/or the school you are enrolled in for the fall, high school graduation year, undergraduate graduation year, and contact information.
  3. Submit your essay as a Word document or PDF by May 15th.
