We are accepting applications from graduating seniors from the Washington Metropolitan Area. Public high school students should be recommend by members who will advance the student's application. With your application, you must submit: a typed / computer generated essay of at least 200-250 words describing what makes you the most qualified to receive this scholarship; a transcript; a recommendation letter from at least one faculty member; three references (one must be from a counselor); and an acceptance letter. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
Since 1997, the Spingarn Alumni Association, Inc. has awarded Spingarn HS and neighboring HS graduating students over $177,000 in scholarships. These scholarships were made possible through the help and with significant annual donations from Mr. Dave Bing, Mr. Ivan K. Brown, Mr. Frederick E. Jordan, Friends of Carol Holmes, the Classes of 1954, 1955, 1956, 1959, 1962,1967, 1970 and contributions from the Spingarn Alumni Association General Scholarship Fund.
Although Spingarn Senior High School closed in 2012, the Spingarn Alumni Association continues (in compliance with its bylaws - Article II) to perform any act consistent with its purpose of providing scholarships for students and alumni who desire to attend college or to obtain vocational training or other forms of post-secondary education.
