Applying for financial aid requires a little work on your part. But the fact is, you won't receive assistance unless you ask for it. And asking for it means completing a few forms. There are three very important things to remember about applying for aid: you only have to complete one financial aid application (either the FAFSA or the TASFA to start the process; the financial aid office at the college you plan to attend will be in charge of awarding you financial aid; and the earlier you submit your forms, the more likely you are to get a good financial aid package.
The purpose of the Texas Educational Opportunity Grant Program (TEOG) is to provide grant aid to financially needy students enrolled in Texas public two-year colleges. To receive an initial award through the TEOG Program, a student must be registered with selective service, or be exempt; be classified by the institution as a Texas resident and be enrolled at least half-time. Applicants are considered when submitting the FAFSA or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Funding is limited, so submit as soon as possible after January 1st. The amounts will vary.
