Scholarship Description

The Nathan L. Wolfson Scholarship was established to provide educational scholarships to blind and low vision Jewish students at accredited colleges and universities. Qualified applicants must attend an accredited college or university and are enrolled in a degree-granting program.

Scholarship Details

  • Honors the memory of Nathan L. Wolfson and his wife, Suzanne
  • Provides scholarships to Jewish students who are legally blind or have low vision
  • Open to both undergraduate and graduate students at accredited institutions
  • Scholarship awards are based on applicant qualifications and available funding
  • Recipients receive at least $2,500 per award cycle
  • Previous recipients may reapply in future years

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be Jewish and enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Must provide medical documentation confirming legal blindness or low vision
  • Must have central visual acuity of 20/70 or worse in the better eye with correction or a visual field no greater than 20 degrees
  • Must demonstrate a strong academic record and engagement with the Jewish community
  • Must be enrolled in a degree-granting program for the approaching fall semester
  • May be enrolled full-time or part-time at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Students earning college credit through approved short-term programs may also qualify

Since its inception in 2018, the award—honoring the memory of longtime JBI trustee and honorary officer Nathan L. Wolfson and his wife, Suzanne—has given $496,288 in scholarships to Jewish undergraduate and graduate students who are legally blind and attending an accredited university or college.
