The Winston-Salem Foundation was established in 1919 with a donation of $1,000. We were the first foundation of any type to be established in North Carolina, and we’re the 16th oldest community foundation in the United States. For over a hundred years, thousands of individuals and organizations have partnered with us to improve the quality of life in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, and beyond. The Foundation is devoting significant resources toward investments in two critical focus areas for our work in Forsyth County: building an inclusive economy, and advancing equity in education.
Since the Winston-Salem Foundation’s student aid program began in 1923, generous donors have connected with promising students to invest in their shared value of education. They manage over 125 scholarship funds to support students from Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties in North Carolina. Scholarships are available in a wide range of areas, helping pave the way to higher education for over 500 students each year. Wintson-Salem scholarships are accessed through a One-Stop Scholarship Application. Applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarships for which they are eligible. The award amounts will vary, and the deadlines will differ depending on the type of scholarship being applied for.
