The Conditional Grant Program is available to eligible students pursuing a degree in engineering or a TxDOT-approved operational business discipline. The Conditional Grant Program will consider both Texas public and private four-year institutions. Students accepted into the program receive up to $5,000 per semester or $10,000 per academic year, based on financial need.
Scholarship Details
- Available to students attending eligible public and private four-year colleges and universities in Texas
- Supports students pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a TxDOT-approved operational business discipline
- Recipients agree to work for the Texas Department of Transportation for two academic years after earning an eligible degree
- Open to both current high school students and college students who meet the program requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- Be economically disadvantaged according to the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Be a Texas resident who is eligible to work in the United States
- Have a minimum cumulative college GPA or unweighted high school GPA of 2.5
- Not be more than 30 days delinquent on court-ordered child support or a written repayment plan
- Not be in repayment status to the department for a previously awarded Conditional Grant
Application Process
- Complete the Conditional Grant Program application
- Submit an official high school transcript if you are a current high school student; current college students must submit an official college transcript, and students with fewer than 30 completed semester hours must submit both official high school and college transcripts
- Provide your verified GPA, SAT or ACT score if applicable, and your current school information
- Write and submit a one-page essay describing your background, life challenges, how you overcame them, and how the grant will support your educational and career goals
- List your academic honors, awards, scholarships, extracurricular activities, community service, volunteer work, employment, internships, or cooperative education experiences
- Submit a copy of your current or previous year's federal income tax return showing your filing status and adjusted gross income
