UChicago Promise honors those whose service to the City of Chicago allow our city to work and thrive. To recognize the importance of the public service that educators, firefighters, and police officers provide to allow both the city and the University community to flourish, the University of Chicago and UChicago Promise offer Chicago Public Schools Educators Awards and Chicago Police & Fire Scholarships each year to the children and dependents of those invaluable members of the community.
Scholarship Details
- Provides scholarships of up to full tuition at the University of Chicago
- Available to eligible children of Chicago firefighters, Chicago police officers, and University of Chicago police officers
- Students must be accepted to the University of Chicago to be considered
- Children of eligible public safety personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty may also qualify
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be accepted to the University of Chicago
- Must be the child, stepchild, or legally adopted child of an eligible Chicago firefighter, Chicago police officer, or University of Chicago police officer
- The parent must currently be an active, sworn officer or firefighter and remain active for the duration of the student's college career
- Students whose eligible parent lost their life in the line of duty may also apply
Application Process
- Apply for admission to the University of Chicago.
- Meet the University's admission requirements and be accepted for enrollment.
- Confirm that your parent or legal relationship and the parent's employment status meet the scholarship eligibility requirements.
- Complete any materials required by the University of Chicago for consideration for the Chicago Police & Fire Scholarship.
- Submit any requested documentation verifying your relationship to the eligible officer or firefighter and their qualifying service.
The Chicago Police & Fire Scholarship can significantly reduce the cost of attending the University of Chicago for students from eligible public safety families. Students whose parents serve as qualifying Chicago or University of Chicago police officers or Chicago firefighters should review the program requirements as part of the University's admission and financial aid process.
