The Regents Scholarship Program was established by the Regents of the University of California in 1962 and represents one of the highest honors awarded to a student at the University. Regents Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and exceptional promise.
Scholarship Details
- Up to 75 Regents Scholarships awarded annually
- Annual honorarium of $2,000 for all Regents Scholars
- Four-year award for entering freshmen (12 quarters); two-year award for transfer students (6 quarters)
- Additional benefits include priority enrollment, guaranteed housing and parking (if applications are submitted by deadlines), and faculty mentorship
Eligibility Criteria
- Selected based on demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and exceptional promise
- Must be admitted to UCLA (award is specific to UCLA and cannot be transferred to other UC campuses)
Student Obligations
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA each quarter and enroll in at least 12 units per quarter
- Report any outside scholarships or financial aid to the Financial Aid and Scholarships office
- Notify the scholarship coordinator of any changes in academic status, such as a GPA below 3.0, reduced course load, or approved leave of absence
- Participate in an annual academic review by the Scholarship coordinator
Application Process
- Apply for admission to UCLA; Regents Scholars are selected by UCLA during the admissions process
- Meet scholarship criteria based on a holistic review of academic performance and leadership potential
The UCLA Regents Scholarship program is unique to the UCLA campus. That means the award cannot be transferred to other UC campuses, nor could other UC campus Regents Scholarship awards be honored at UCLA. Selection of the Regents Scholars is completed by each campus individually.
