To be considered for this competitive scholarship, candidates must qualify for admission to the University of Chicago and be children (including legally adopted children) of currently active, sworn municipal, county, or state firefighters or police officers in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Scholarship Details
- Up to full tuition coverage for twelve academic quarters
- Available to children, including legally adopted children, of active sworn municipal, county, or state police officers or firefighters in the United States and Puerto Rico
- Eligible students also include those whose parent was injured, killed in the line of duty, or mandatorily retired
- UChicago meets one hundred percent of demonstrated financial need for students applying for financial aid
- Scholarship notifications typically released in mid April
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must qualify for admission to the University of Chicago
- Applicant must be the child or legally adopted child of an eligible firefighter or police officer
- Parent may be currently active, retired due to mandate, injured in the line of duty, or deceased due to service
- Verification of parent employment or service status is required
Application Process
- Submit the Common App or Apply Coalition application along with the UChicago Supplement
- Complete both the student and verification sections of the Certification Form
- Upload the Certification Form to the UChicago Account under the Police and Fire Verification Form tab or submit by mail or fax
- Include contact information for the representative able to verify the parent’s employment or service status
Please complete both the student portion and the verification section of the Certification Form and directly upload the document into your UChicago Account by November 1st if applying for Early Decision I/Early Action or January 2nd if applying for Early Decision II/Regular Decision under the Police and Fire Verification Form tab.
