The Financial Aid Scholarship Services Office awards several hundred scholarships each year to undergraduates who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and financial need and who are residents of Washington state. To be eligible for consideration, students must be admitted to the UW for autumn quarter of the academic year and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) by the priority filing date of February 28th. Below are some Scholarships exclusively for first year students.
Scholarship Details
- Presidential Scholar award of $10,000 per year for eligible Washington residents
- Purple and Gold Scholarship for nonresident U.S. students with variable award amounts
- Costco Scholarship providing $10,000 per year for students with significant financial need
- Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium scholarships and research opportunities for STEM students
- Army ROTC Tuition Scholarship covering full tuition with additional stipends
- Army ROTC Housing Scholarship providing $10,000 annually toward housing
Eligibility Criteria
- Incoming first-year student at the University of Washington
- Presidential Scholar applicants must be Washington state residents
- Purple and Gold Scholarship applicants must be nonresident U.S. students
- Costco Scholarship applicants must demonstrate significant financial need and Washington residency
- NASA Space Grant applicants must be pursuing a STEM-related degree
- Army ROTC scholarships require U.S. citizenship, full-time enrollment, and commitment to commission
- Most scholarships require full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress
Application Process
- Submit the University of Washington admission application
- Complete the FAFSA or WASFA to be considered for need-based scholarships
- Meet campus confirmation and enrollment deadlines
- Apply separately for ROTC scholarships or NASA Space Grant programs if applicable
- Maintain eligibility requirements for scholarship renewal
