In partnership with Dr. Jason Wang, Mr. Zack Ji, and Dr. Aileen Thong, ASIA seeks to support aspiring health professionals. Open to not only Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, but to the many refugee and immigrant communities that ASIA serves in Northeast Ohio, we are proud to offer high school seniors and college students a monetary award along with mentorship and shadowing opportunities at our International Community Health Centers.
Eligibility
- Must belong to AAPI or other refugee/immigrant communities of Northeast Ohio
- Submit a copy of (1) most recent school transcript, (2) ACT/SAT scores, (3) a typed essay, and (4) a resume/CV that includes volunteerism
- Submit a letter of recommendation
- Previous award winners are ineligible to apply for the award
Application Process & Requirements
- Letter of Recommendation. A recommendation letter written by a teacher, school administrator, or community leader should be submitted directly to Kelly Le answering the following: "Please describe the nature of your relationship with the applicant as well as how long you've known them, a summary of your experience with them, and your opinion of his or her character and potential success in the healthcare field."
- Typed Essay Prompt. Your experiences shape who you are as an individual beyond grades or test scores. In 500 words or less, tell us how your experiences have shaped you and your desire to become a professional in healthcare.
A scholarship selection committee, including Dr. Wang and Mr. Ji, will review applicants based on academic standing, community engagement, financial need, and essay responses. Applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, school official, or community leader. Finalists participate in virtual interviews with the selection committee. Three winners will receive an initial $2,500 award and an opportunity to shadow health professionals at ASIA's International Community Health Center (ICHC). A one time renewable $500 book scholarship will be awarded to recipients who submit a report of progress after one year and agree to mentorship with award winners from other years.
