Scholarship Description

The Women’s Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC (WCADC) is excited to offer scholarships to promote and recognize artistic excellence among BIPOC female-identifying students from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.

Scholarship Details

  • One award - up to $5,000 in value
  • Top three applicants will participate in an art exhibition (location TBD)
  • Eligible expenses: tuition, campus housing, and instructional materials

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must identify as BIPOC and female
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must currently be a high school senior enrolled in a public school in DC, MD, or VA for the past two years or a college freshman or sophomore originally from the DMV area
  • Must be enrolled or plan to enroll as a Visual Arts major at a two- or four-year college or university
  • Must not be a member of WCADC or a family member of a WCA member
  • Must not have previously received the WCADC scholarship

Application Process

  1. Submit your application online by April 30th at 11:59 PM
  2. Prepare and upload the following:
    • Original artwork created in the last three years (2D or 3D, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, etc.)
    • Process folio
    • Reflection statement
  3. Optional: Request a WCADC mentor to assist with your portfolio review and application

Selection Criteria

  • Applications will be reviewed by a panel of at least three professional judges
  • Original artwork counts for 50% of the total score
  • Process folios and written statements count for the remaining 50%
  • Only original, individual work is eligible (no collaborations or reproductions)
  • Judges' decisions are final

An entry is defined as an original artwork that must be a completed, rendered visual composition originated by the applicant. Art can be two or three-dimensional work such as drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, collage, photography, and sculpture. All artwork must be original and not be copied from master artworks or comic art.
