Scholarship Description

The Commission offers scholarships for students who are residents of an underserved county. Underserved counties include Allen County, Marion County, Lake County, St. Joseph County, and Vanderburgh County.

Scholarship Details

  • Available to students from underserved counties: Allen, Marion, Lake, St. Joseph, and Vanderburgh
  • Recipients must agree in writing to teach in an underserved county for at least three years after certification
  • Program supports students pursuing teaching degrees at eligible Indiana institutions
  • Modified eligibility requirements apply to new recipients after June 30th
  • Scholarship is renewable annually with a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must currently live in or have lived in an underserved county prior to college enrollment
  • Must be an Indiana resident and U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Must be admitted or currently enrolled full-time at an eligible Indiana institution
  • Must be a first-time undergraduate student pursuing a teaching degree
  • Must maintain a GPA required by the institution’s school of education

Application Process

  1. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Create a Student ScholarTrack account
  3. Log into ScholarTrack and click “Apply for State Aid”
  4. Complete and submit the William A. Crawford Minority Teacher Scholarship application by August 31st
  5. Ensure all application materials are submitted through ScholarTrack

If selected, students must agree in writing to apply for a teaching position at a school in an underserved county and, if hired, teach in an underserved county for at least three years. To renew the Scholarship for subsequent academic years, a minority student (who qualified for the scholarship initially) must reapply for the scholarship each year and maintain the cumulative grade point average (GPA) required for admission to the institution’s school of education or at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent if the school does not require a minimum GPA.
