The Susan L. Winston Scholarship program recognizes excellence and achievement for students in master’s degree programs in health administration, health policy, and public health by providing scholarships. Winston Scholars also join a one-day symposium on health policy in Washington, DC. Students of all political ideological perspectives are encouraged to apply.
Scholarship Details
- Up to twenty awards of $10,000 each
- Open to full-time graduate students at accredited U.S. colleges or universities
- Recognizes students pursuing degrees related to health policy, administration, or management
- Embodies Susan L. Winston’s commitment to collaboration and healthcare improvement across sectors and political perspectives
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program at an accredited college or university
- Current first-year graduate students in their second semester (or third quarter) of a two-year program, or students in their next-to-final year of a longer program, are eligible
- Must complete the didactic portion of their degree by December of the year following the award
- Applicants from health policy, public policy, public health, health administration, business, economics, or law programs (MPH, MPP, MHA, MBA, MA, JD, or joint programs such as JD/MPH) are encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, community service, and commitment to improving the U.S. healthcare system are key selection factors
Application Process
- Prepare a professional resume detailing academic, professional, and extracurricular experiences
- Write a personal statement (approximately 1½ single-spaced pages) describing your interest in health policy, relevant experiences, and long-term career goals
- Request registrar-issued undergraduate and graduate transcripts showing at least one semester or quarter of graduate work
- Obtain two letters of nomination:
- One from a faculty member in your degree program
- One from a preceptor or employer
- Ensure both letters are on official letterhead, signed, and address your qualifications for this scholarship
- Application deadline: March 13th at 5:00 PM PT
The Scholarship embodies Ms. Winston’s commitment to public/private partnerships necessary for a high-quality healthcare system, bipartisan collaboration in achieving health policy goals as well as an appreciation of the roles of both the government and the private sector in achieving those goals.
