Scholarship Description

Expand your professional network in clean energy and climate: In addition to funding, YPE will provide opportunities for mentorship from our members, free attendance to our annual Career Expo, access to other YPE events, and admittance to the YPE Scholarship Alumni network. The winners will be recognized in our newsletter, which enjoys wide readership across the energy, climate, and cleantech ecosystems in the Bay, and will be able to forge meaningful connections with both recent graduates and experienced professionals working in the industry.

Scholarship Details

  • Supports undergraduate and master's degree students interested in climate and clean energy careers
  • Scholarship awards are valued at a minimum of $2,500
  • Provides mentorship opportunities with professionals in the energy and climate industries
  • Includes complimentary admission to the annual YPE Career Expo and other YPE events
  • Recipients become members of the YPE Scholarship Alumni network
  • Scholarship recipients are recognized in the YPE newsletter

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate or master's degree student
  • Must be enrolled at a college or university located in Northern California during the coming Fall term
  • Remote coursework is acceptable if enrolled at an eligible Northern California institution
  • Must demonstrate financial need, such as through a FAFSA Student Aid Report
  • Must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the climate or energy sector

Application Process

  1. Complete the scholarship application during the application period
  2. Prepare responses to the required short-answer essay questions describing your interest in climate or clean energy careers
  3. Explain how your background and experiences will contribute a unique perspective to the industry
  4. Upload documentation demonstrating financial need, such as a FAFSA Student Aid Report
  5. Submit an official or unofficial academic transcript
  6. Upload a current resume or curriculum vitae
  7. Review the application for completeness and submit all required materials before the deadline
  8. Monitor communications regarding scholarship review, recipient selection, and mentorship opportunities

YPE SF Bay Area launched our Scholarship Program in 2021 to motivate the next generation of energy leaders and to create pathways for students to envision and realize successful careers in the clean economy. We encourage students from all backgrounds to apply, including those from underrepresented backgrounds. This scholarship intends to provide financial resources to support coursework/study in climate or clean energy, as well as mentorship and induction into the professional cleantech ecosystem.
