The Zonta Women in STEM Award celebrates and supports women leaders who are making meaningful contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Through this award, Zonta International seeks to support the next generation of women STEM leaders and encourage greater participation and leadership by women in STEM.
Scholarship Details
- Sixteen international awards of $5,000 each are offered annually
- Recipients receive a complimentary one-year supporting membership in Zonta International for the following financial year
- Recognizes groundbreaking research, pioneering discoveries, and contributions to scientific knowledge and innovation
- Supports women pursuing eligible STEM degree programs
- Applications are submitted through participating Zonta clubs, e-Clubs, or districts
- Application deadlines vary by Zonta club or district
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a woman currently enrolled in an eligible STEM degree program
- Must be in the second year or later of an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a master's program through its final year
- Must pursue a field of study included on Zonta International's designated STEM degree program list
- Must demonstrate significant research, discoveries, or contributions to advancing knowledge and innovation in a STEM field
- Previous recipients of the Zonta Women in STEM Award are not eligible to receive the award a second time
- Zonta club members, direct members of Zonta International, and employees of Zonta International or the Zonta Foundation for Women are not eligible
- Z club and Golden Z club members are eligible to apply
- Recipients of other Zonta fellowships or awards who received complimentary supporting memberships may apply during their membership year, provided they are not applying for the same award previously received
Application Process
- Confirm that your academic program appears on Zonta International's list of recognized STEM degree programs.
- Locate a participating Zonta club using the organization's Club Locator to obtain the application deadline and submission instructions.
- If no Zonta club operates in your geographic area, determine whether you may apply through a Zonta e-Club or directly through your Zonta district.
- Review the application requirements and prepare the requested information about your academic achievements, research, scientific contributions, and leadership experience.
- Complete the application in English and submit all required materials according to your participating club's or district's instructions.
- Applications advance through the applicable selection process for consideration by the Zonta International Women in STEM Award Jury.
Zonta International annually offers 16 international awards of US$5,000 each, along with a complimentary one-year supporting membership in Zonta International for the following financial year.
