California Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE)

There is no application fee for the APLE program.



Application Deadline: June 30th, annually.

Residency: U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen and California resident.

Major/Career interest: Education, Teacher

Award may be used for: Full time or Part time study; Qualifying educational loans disbursed prior to initial teaching credential date.

Award may be used at: Any qualifying postsecondary institution, Four-year college or Graduate school.

Accreditation: School must be accredited.

Application Requirements: Nomination required; Nomination by each participating institution.

Applicant must demonstrate: Academic performance, financial need & proof of eligibility.
Other application requirements: Loan indebtedess; must not hold an initial teaching credential; Applicants must be pursuing teaching credential to teach K-12.

Additional information:
Must have outstanding educational loans in good standing

Participants receive awards after providing eligible teaching service in designated teacher-shortage area

Loans assumed for up to four years:up to $2,000 for first year and up to $3,000 for second, third and fourth years of consecutive service

Participants who agree to, and provide, the designated teaching service in the area of math, science, or special education are eligible to receive an additional $1,000 per year in loan assumption benefits
