Wisconsin Bakers Association Scholarship

Due to the chronic shortage of qualified bakers, the Wisconsin Bakers Association (WBA) started a scholarship fund. The WBA’s education committee submitted recommendations to the board of directors on October 24, 1983, to implement a scholarship program. The first scholarship awards were later presented in 1984. Under the WBA scholarship program, the maximum award that can be given to any one student per calendar year is $1,000.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Please note: This award is open to Wisconsin residents only
• The applicant must have worked for a bakery operator for at least 500 hours.
• The applicant must be at least 18 years of age by the time the scholarship would be in effect.
• Three written references must be enclosed with the application form as to character and work experience.
• The applicant must submit a resume along with a statement explaining his/her career objectives and why he/she deserves and needs the scholarship.
• The applicant must have completed high school or passed the high school equivalency test (GED) by the time the scholarship would take effect.

About the WBA
The WBA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the baking industry by fostering the education of future bakers as well as practicing bakers through scholarships, educational programs, and workshops. The WBA recently restored its baker apprenticeship program to encourage students to pursue a baking profession.

Organized in 1905, the WBA is made up of retail and small wholesale bakeries, multi-unit operations, supermarket bakeries, and specialty shops, as well as those in the allied trades. The association implemented a student membership category to bring these future bakers into the fold. The WBA has also managed and operated the Cream Puff Operation at the Wisconsin State Fair since 1924. Visit the WBA at www.wibakers.com for more information.
