  • Scholarship Description
  • The Pine Cone Foundation (PCF) is a 501c3, and its mission is to support the higher education goals of learning disabled students in Sacramento by offering multi-year scholarship monies to assist with community college expenses.

    The PCF scholarship program assists eligible students with documented learning disabilities who demonstrate academic promise, plan to enroll at a PCF partner institution and meet the Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW) criteria. The award monies support students specifically with purchasing books and prescription glasses, as well as covering health, student center, parking permit and Universal Transit Pass fees.

    Eligibility:
    -Be a graduating high school senior who will be attending community college in the fall with a course load of at least 8 credits
    -Plan on enrolling at Sierra College or the Los Rios Community College District (American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges)
    -Demonstrate financial need
    -Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
    -Provide most current documentation of an identified learning disability; attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder alone is not considered to be a learning disability; eligible candidates with AD/HD must also provide documentation of a specific learning disability
    -Provide a signed letter of reference from a teacher, high school counselor, principal of present high school or extracurricular activity leader
    -Be a United States citizen
    -Submit an application with all required paperwork in one package, postmarked before the deadline date; any incomplete or late applications will be disqualified

    The award monies support students specifically with purchasing books and prescription glasses, as well as covering health, student center, parking permit and Universal Transit Pass fees. PCF offers ongoing funding for up to 3 years for students seeking associate, technical and vocational degrees who maintain an 8 to 12 unit enrollment status and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. For associate degree students who successfully transfer to a four-year institution, after 3 years at community college, a one-time $2,000 tuition scholarship is remitted. Once awarded a PCF scholarship, it is a year-round support program that can total up to $5,350 over a three-year period.
