  • Scholarship Description
  • The Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia grants scholarships annually to students with outstanding academic qualifications and financial need. Applicants must be full-time students pursuing studies leading to a degree in an accredited four-year college, university or professional school, or high school seniors intending to pursue such studies. Applicants must be of Greek descent or students who are declared majors in Greek Studies (regardless of heritage), and U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, or Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania; Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, or Salem counties in New Jersey; New Castle County in Delaware.

    Applicants must be enrolled in full-time undergraduate programs during the coming academic year. They do not need to know which institution they will attend or what financial aid package they will receive to be eligible to apply for Hellenic University Club Scholarships. Recipients of Hellenic University Club Undergraduate Scholarships may not reapply for an undergraduate scholarship for three years. Auctioning Off College Admissions Seats?

Why not have schools auction off college seats to the highest bidder? The question was posed by a senior vice president at the Harvard Management Company on his public LinkedIn page amid the recent national college admissions cheating scandal. According to Michael Cappucci, it is simply "an honest question." He goes on to ask, "Why do we have a system where wealthy parents have to make shady payments to even more shady intermediaries to get their kids into college?" The post, which has since been removed but still drew much online anger was authored by Cappucci who is "not a top official" at the company; many people still presumed Harvard is connected to his idea, according to Inside Higher Ed, but Harvard was quick to distance itself from the LinkedIn post.
