  • Scholarship Description
  • The PFLAG Norman Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship presented to an outstanding graduating senior who is either an active participant of a Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), is LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning), or is a straight ally and would like to help move equality forward. The goal of the applicant should be to attend college or another educational institution/accredited facility. If the winner is a Norman Public School attendee, the scholarship award will be presented at either the Norman High School or the Norman North High School Awards Ceremony in May. If the recipient is homeschooled, in an alternative education system, or within Norman but not at either of the high schools, the award will be presented at a date determined by the recipient and the Scholarship Committee.

    Applicants must be a Norman, OK resident who plans to continue his or her education/training beyond high school in any institution of higher education or other educational institution/accredited facility within 12 months of graduation upon admittance/acceptance. Must be an individual who promotes inclusion and supports people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Protest at Johns Hopkins U Over Proposed Private Police Force

Student at Johns Hopkins University have staged a month-long sit-in at Garland Hall, JHU’s main administrative building, to protest the university's plans for a private police force, which was recently approved by the Maryland General Assembly. The university has had to suspend financial aid, disability, academic advising, and international services due to the protest's complete blockage. The protesting students are also demanding that JHU cancel its contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and eight students even chained themselves to Garland Hall. [...]
