  • NHS is the oldest and best-known student recognition program. For nearly 100 years, NHS members have been making a difference in their schools and communities through their scholarship, service, leadership, and character. High school seniors who are National Honor Society (NHS) members in good standing of an affiliated NHS chapter are eligible to apply for the scholarship. I am hoping to win this scholarship so I can attend college as my family is financially challenged. I am planning to study mechanical and aerospace engineering. I would like to help modify airplanes to be as safe as possible because I lost a family member in 9/11 and desire to prevent anything like that from happening again.

I wish everyone the best of luck with their scholarship search. The problem is if you are fortunate to get a full tuition scholarship, chances are good that you will be ineligible for any other scholarships you have earned that are sent to the university. We lost several thousand dollars of awards that could have been used for expenses, summer tuition, etc., because of this.

Student Loan Debt Forgiveness for U.S. Military Veterans

The U.S. Department of Education plans to forgive $1.3 billion in outstanding student loan debt for roughly 25,000 disabled U.S. military veterans, beginning in July. Until now, the Department of Education had required veterans to formally apply for student loan forgiveness - having them complete "unnecessary paperwork to secure relief from their student loans, even after the Department of Veterans Affairs had found that a veteran met the legal requirements for disability-related loan forgiveness." In 2018, over 30,000 totally and permanently disabled veterans eligible for student loan forgiveness had not completed the necessary paperwork; a majority of which had defaulted on their student loans.
