  • Scholarship Description
  • The Negro Leagues Committee (NLC) of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) is pleased to announce their essay-writing contest for high school seniors. There will be one $1,000 scholarship and one $500 award for special
    recognition from SABR and the Crutchfield Foundation.

    Eligibility:
    -Current high school senior
    -Applicant must be anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of the application
    -Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution
    -Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA at the end of junior year in high school

    Applicants must write an essay of 1,200 words or less for the following question: "Who is Jimmie Crutchfield and why is he significant to Negro League history?" For full details and to apply, please visit the scholarship provider's website.
