Applicants must lead or join an environmental stewardship project, take a photo of their project in action, write an essay about their project and what it meant to them, and submit their project photo and essay to the scholarship provider.
Scholarship Details
- Three scholarships awarded annually totaling $1,750
- Scholarships are for tuition and fees at an accredited college or university
- Top five essay authors also receive a free NWP t-shirt or tote bag
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to high school juniors and seniors
- High school seniors may also apply during the summer after graduation
- Applicants must complete an environmental stewardship project
- Projects must reflect leadership, initiative, and sustainability
Application Process
- Plan and lead or join an environmental cleanup or conservation project
- Take a photo of yourself in action during the project
- Write an essay describing your project, its impact, and what it meant to you (suggested length: 750–1,500 words)
- Email your submission to [email protected] with the following: project location, photo, essay, number of volunteers, total volunteer hours, and your name, address, and year in high school
- Submit everything by August 31st to be considered for that year’s awards
The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative has engaged tens of thousands of youth volunteers from around the world in environmental cleanup and conservation projects since 1999. The goals of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative are to elevate youth into leadership roles by engaging them in environmental cleanup and conservation projects, empower young people to rebuild the environmental and social well-being of our communities, and improve local living conditions for both citizens and wildlife through education, activism, and action.
